The Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront Regeneration Plan is a comprehensive neighborhood plan. It looks at all facet of life and development in Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront including land use, housing, tourism opportunities, economic development, tenure security, funding strategies and institutional framework for implementation and management. Apart from responding to the physical development issues on which Lagos State Government justified its intervention in July 2012, it addresses the economic and social dimensions, which have tremendous potentials for building the resilience of Lagos, increasing the livability index of the city and adaptation for implementation in other coastal communities in Lagos. The plan was presented to Lagos State Government (LASG) in February 2014.
In 2014, the Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront Regeneration Plan was shortlisted for the Fuller Challenge, New York, USA.
Since then, the Makoko Neighborhood Hotspot, developed by Fabulous Urban and implemented in close collaboration with SERAC and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nigeria was implemented and inaugurated in December 2015.
In June 2016, the Makoko Neighborhood Hotspot Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited was founded and inaugurated, again in close collaboration with SERAC and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nigeria.
Fabulous Urban drafted together with an economist three business plans for biogas linked toilets, a mini biogas reactor and a mini solar plant to be implemented and run at the Makoko Neighborhood Hotspot. Fabulous Urban is currently raising the money for the necessary initial investment.
