The hotel is located in Art Village, 3rd phase of Xixi wetland in Hangzhou. The site was a new rural settlement. Ponds and ditches are scattered around the houses, with big persimmon trees standing nearby. The settlement is a product of nature, whose characters resembles natural phenomenon, such as “extension and border”, “similarity and difference”, “aggregation and production”. The design adopts an organizational structure in terms of “one point and three lines”, which corresponds to the foregoing features, like a cluster of cells, a group of bubbles, a branch, a leaf, or even a film of cobwebs. It expresses some order of nature, brings nature’s uncertainty, and intends to create an pure and clear original style.
A cluster of guestrooms, in the shape of a polygon formed by the organizational structure of “one point and three lines”, gives a special spatial experience which utterly differs from the one offered by traditional standard rooms. Guests may have different views of wetland landscape. The core of a standard bathroom, dominating the center of polygonal guestroom, maintains integrity of polygonal unit space. Corrugated and perforated white aluminum panels are applied to the structure’s exterior, which guarantees guests’ privacy while enjoying the view. It also presents its changing, light and pure appearance, and expresses poetic charms, bathed in steaming mist.
