The site is a corner lot of approximately 140 tsubo (approximately 1,860 square meters), bordered by a road on the north and west sides. The north side of the lot faces a magnificent temple across the road, the east side faces a park with a large memorial tree, and the south side faces a parking lot, creating an open and spacious neighborhood.
The owner is retiring this year, and wanted a small house of about 20 tsubo for his retirement.
The small, square roof is located in response to the roof of the temple on the north side of the building. Within this simple composition, we designed the house to create a rich space with two types of natural light.
One is the light falling from the top light at the top of the roof, and the other is indirect light bouncing off the ground and coming up from the south and east faces. These lights change with the seasons and weather, creating various conditions and creating a rich place to live.
