The three winners of an open design competition will join three pre-qualified candidates – BIG, Lacaton & Vassal, and SANAA – for the restricted design competition for a new school of architecture in Aarhus, Denmark.
The Aarhus School of Architecture with the Danish Building & Property Agency announced the pre-qualified teams and the open competition in November 2015. In statement last week they announced the winners of the competition, which had garnered 235 proposals from 47 nations:
- Erik Giudice Architects, Sweden/France
- Brian Vargo, Jonas Nielsen & Mathias Palle, Denmark
- Atelier Lorentzen Langkilde, Denmark
Images of their winning designs are provided below, but keep in mind that, per the statement, "None of the three winning proposals from the open design competition will be built in their pure form: they will instead inspire a new brief for the following restricted design competition."
So the three winners will compete "on an equal footing" with the three pre-qualified teams – BIG, from Denmark, Lacaton & Vassal, from France, and SANAA, from Japan – for the new school of architecture at Godsbanearealerne in Aarhus. The restricted design competition should be launched in late summer 2016 with a winner selected in spring 2017.
