House at Kavouri
Athens, Greece

A platform, the creation of a shade and three concrete frames organize the view towards the sea, at a hill with pine trees, at a typical Mediterranean landscape.
It is a family house of 600 sq.m , close to Athens, situated on top of a hill facing south, towards the sea.
The persistence which dominates the whole concept is the ways of seeing the view. The main open space, the platform, with the swimming pool is the centre of the composition. All the rooms, both of public function and of private are around this open space. In order to isolate the bedrooms they are situated one meter higher than the rest of the house so you have unobstructed view of the sea and at the same time the view in the bedrooms is not possible.
As you enter the house, from the sitting room, you face the sea through a glass wall. The fireplace is situated in front of the glass wall so even during winter sea is the main point.
The kitchen and the drawing room are the only spaces at the north backyard. Thus during summer one can have lunch at the open space in shadow.
The three bedrooms are in line, one meter higher from the sitting room. All three have the same size and each one represents a separate volume connected to the next one through a corridor with openings on both sides, permitting the view both to the sea and the hill.
At the basement there is a playing room and storage space.
The materials used are limited, bare concrete, grey tiles wood and aluminum framed windows.
