Entries were submitted in three categories – Digital, Hand-drawn, Hybrid – and 38 drawings were shortlisted, to be displayed at WAF in Berlin next month. From the shortlisted entries, the jury (artists Ben Langlands and Nikki Bell, Narinder Singh Sagoo of Foster + Partners, Ken Shuttleworth of Make Architects, Owen Hopkins of the Sir John Soane’s Museum, and WAF's Jeremy Melvin) selected three winners:

  • Digital: Deepwater Purgatory by Christopher Wijatno. The drawing depicts a prison moored like an oil rig in deep water, something the judges felt evoked Piranesi and Dante.
  • Hand-drawn: Scenarios for a Post-Crisis Landscape by Dimitrios Grozopoulis. The drawing of a post-industrial landscape was described by the jury as having "a haunting quality" and "an extraordinary control of line."
  • HybridMomento Mori: a Peckham Hospice Care Home by Jerome Xin Hao Ng. Depicting multi-generation social interaction in such settings, the drawing was part of Ng's diploma project at The Bartlett School of Architecture.
Ng's Momento Mori, which the jury commended as "a superbly conceived and executed perspectival view," won the top honor from the three finalists. Ng, the other finalists, and the rest of the shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London from 21 February to 14 April 2018.

Hybrid and Overall Winner: "Momento Mori: a Peckham Hospice Care Home" by Jerome Xin Hao Ng
