A unique opportunity was afforded us to breathe new life into this elegant 18th Century colonial house and stable outbuildings located in the heart of Port Louis. Enclosed and protected by stone walls, the house is typical of its era with a balanced architectural composition with front and back courtyards of mature trees and water fountain creating a pleasant and welcoming environment. The house was in relatively good condition but required refurbishment and modernization which preserved the integrity of the existing buildings but adapted for contemporary use as offices. The house was restored using historic techniques which were meticulously employed by specialist local tradesmen and particular attention was given to the discrete integration of the latest building systems. Together with Haka Designs London, the interior decoration of the house….
To the rear of the main house were structures which serviced the main colonial house which were also to be converted to offices. Reminiscent of Parisian buildings, only the main stone walls and timber roof structure was retained with other recent unsympathetic additions were removed, returning the buildings to a shell suitable for use as open plan offices. To contrast with the existing preserved elements, the interior fit-out was a contemporary mix of exposed concrete, kiatt flooring, coloured gradient opaque glass, bespoke oak furniture, and a 'red room', conceived with red glass walls where the company brainstorming takes place.
