The new 12.800 square meter Campus Steilshoop not only unites the primary school and district school under one roof, but also represents a significant new beginning with the integration of the neighbourhood center in the second building complex. In addition to the »Schule am See« primary and district school, the library, the adult education center, the Steilshoop parents' school and the Haus der Jugend (youth center) are also located here, where the so-called »concrete block« from the 1960s had previously increasingly become the heart of the problem district.

The ensemble of two buildings nestles around a square-like widened campus axis, which creates both an opening to the district and a visual axis to Lake Bramfeld. The soft cubature of the two- to four-storey buildings is wrapped in surrounding bands of colored ceramic. Generous glazing ensures maximum transparency and views in and out to connect the functions within the buildings with the outside world.
