Ricardo E. Bofill — the son of famed architect Ricardo Bofill Levi, who founded Taller de Arquitectura in 1963 — answers "what is architecture?" and other questions posed by a group of architects from Innsbruck in the latest installment of WIA.
According to the WIA website, the group is "interviewing the world's leading architectural designers and thinkers to learn their opinion about what architecture is and what it can do. Our goal is to provide clear and concise information about architecture from the viewpoint of the contemporary protagonists and thus form a panoramic view of today's architectural thinking." The interviews started in 2013, when we rounded up a sampling of them, and since then nearly 100 interviews have been conducted, all of them asking the same questions:
- What is architecture?
- What can architecture do?
- What is your architectural position?
- What is your design method?
The younger Bofill, a principal at Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, talks about how "architecture is the object in relation with the place and environment" and the importance of "workshopping" at RBTA, among other things.
