Architects Vying for Porsche Design Tower Frankfurt

Six of the twenty architects participating in the closed competition for the first Porsche Design residential tower in Europe have been named, with a winner to be chosen in early 2015.

Twenty architecture practices will be competing to come up with the "best urban-architectural concept for the planned Porsche Design Tower Frankfurt," the carmaker's second residential tower, following the first in-house design that is now under construction in Miami. Working with the P+B Group and Hildebrandt Immobilien, Porsche Design is striving for a tower in Frankfurt with an "'iconic style' – a style characterized by a timeless, puristic and, at the same time, functional design language," according to the tower's website. Further, the winning design should have "an unusual, unmistakable appearance, with high quality vertical elements and exceptional internal planning." The planned tower's site is near the Frankfurt city center in the new Europaviertel district, on a site adjacent to the Emser Brücke and linked to Boulevard Mitte.

Fourteen more practices will be selected from an application process, with the competition starting in October.
