Julien De Smedt Architects (JDS) has been given the International Award from the Belgian Building Awards 2014 at Batibouw last week. With offices in Brussels, Copenhagen and Shanghai, JDS was recognized for the number of projects realized outside of Belgium (40 in 35 countries, according to the architect), including the World Championship Skijump in Oslo, the mixed-use Iceberg development in Århus, Denmark (pictured), and the recently completed Kalvebod Waves project in Copenhagen. While acknowledging that many of today's architectural icons in Belgium were designed by foreign architects, the awards recognize "Belgian companies making our national pride abroad."
