The duo of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron are a familiar name around Miami, having previously realized the mixed-use parking garage at 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Their highly anticipated Pérez Art Museum Miami opened during Miami Art Week/Art Basel, drawing primarily favorable reviews from art-goers and architectural critics alike. Working with Patric Blanc to realize landscape elements like the suspended vegetated columns pictured here, the architects (with partner-in-charge Christine Binswanger) have created galleries perched above Biscayne Bay and below the floating roof that is marked by timber pieces woven amongst the concrete structure. Fittingly, one of the inaugural exhibitions features the work of longtime Herzog & de Meuron collaborator Ai Weiwei.
