This project is a house for an elderly parents and an atelier for their son who lives in the same city.
We propose a discrete residence for the elderly couple, who had lived relatively autonomous lives, to develop their own lives. We hung a roof between the private rooms to create a common space, these are not centripetal reunion spaces where the family gathers, but rather "in-between spaces (Ai-no-Ma)" like a veranda or an alley shared by the private rooms. By creating such places, the family can not only stay in their own private rooms, but can also feel each other while keeping a moderate distance.
