The site is located in between East Fourth and Fifth Ring Road, where several railways go across. We call her the uncultivated land ignored by rapid urban development at the first sight. Her primitive vitality is hidden in these broken warehouses and we saw the possibilities to become a secret garden in the urban desert.
The whole development covering about 140 thousnd square metres of building area will be revitalized by cultural and creative industries. The biggest challenge for architects is how to increase FAR and improve space quality while sticking to the site boundary and reconfiguring exsiting spaces. Our main design stratogy is ‘bone joining’ and ‘vein unlocking’. Several adjacent buildings is joined, reconfigured and turned into a public space, functioning as the heart of the whole redevelopment.
