During the renovation of the historic concert hall, the Tonhalle Society Zurich finds temporary accommodation in the Maag Halls. For this reason, the outdoor spaces around Maag square have been temporarily landscaped.
Three large maple trees emerge from a large, 9-meter diameter planter which now gives the square a new identity. On the backside of the Hall, along Naphtastrasse, the large blind wall is lined with climbing plants, entangled into a rebar mesh and growing from six corten steel troughs. The decaying texture of the steel is in harmony with the temporary character of the Maag Halls and evocative of industrial and construction sites. The changing colors of the chosen vegetation correspond with the heterogeneous character of the surrounding office buildings, and in autumn, when their leaves turn to bright red, will make their blue-green facades shine.
