Savings and Loan Bank Böblingen

Böblingen, Germany

The perimeter blocks of the extension restructure the headquarters' site and turn the orientation of the Kreissparkasse (district savings bank) towards the city center. Being the final point of the city's north-south axis, the square in front of the station is remodeled. The vertically structured stone façade joins the new buildings with some of the existing ones. By reducing its sculptural presence, the tower, built by Paul Stohrer in 1974, becomes part of the newly formed quarter. The headquarters in Göppingen is certified Gold by the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council), making it the first Kreissparkasse to win this distinction.
