An open-air concert venue was erected on the shores of the Black Sea, which should also provide basic protection from wind, sun and rain for the audience. Rising and circular grandstands focus on the large stage like in a classical theater. Lobbies, VIP zones, 4 cinemas and necessary secondary and technical rooms are organized underneath the grandstands. A separate, U-shaped building with 6 stories was placed behind the stage, accomodating the back-stage area, a cafeteria, dressing rooms and offices of the administration. The large steel roof and the surrounding translucent and back-lit louvers turn the Black Sea Arena into a distinct and widely visible structure. The roof above the audience is retractable and all louvers can rotate, providing a high adaptability to different needs and situations. The Black Sea arena can remain calm and unobstrusive within its surroundings, but it can easily open up for events and welcome its visitors. Additional technical facilities, like a large warehouse, a fire station, power supply and water treatment plant, were all accomodated in a detached service building. The entire landscape design including master plan and infrastructure for the site were part of the overall planning process.
