The H-shaped form of the new fire station in Krefeld allows optimal organization for the complex function of fire-departments. The alarm exit for the fire trucks leads directly to the „Neue Ritterstrasse“ while the delivery and visitor traffic uses the entry on the east side. The dark brick stones define the character of the buil-ding which ties back to the tradition of brick houses like Villa Lange and Villa Esters. The new fire station opens to the city through a large glass hall. The courtyard and the art-faced foyer creates a public space, which is available for various events. Thus, the fire brigade is more strongly involved with the public.
