Teitakusubako / Naoki Hayasaka + Yuta Onoda

We are the team of architects working closely with Kamakura city (which is a suburban town in the vicinity of Tokyo, about 50km away) valuing the most for its local context. In recent years, originality and uniqueness of historic Kamakura area has been rapidly diminishing by the dominant trend of housing supply based on the idea of mass consumption. Our mission is to create, express, and crystalize the uniqueness of Kamakura into a form of architecture, in order to bring back the original qualities of former Kamakura through the driving force of architecture. We will continue to challenge those local issues by working closely and directly with “real” Kamakura, examining with our own eyes, and working with our own hands—because such issues is hard to grasp and comprehend by just sitting in front of a computer screen. We believe that should be the new form of a local architect truly demanded in this age of diversity.
