For their urban masterplan of the Olympia quarter in Almere, MVRDV invited 20 international architects to design a couple of buildings. Powerhouse Company was granded the design of an flexible office and of a so-called parasite, a small apartment building over a tunnel. We approached the assignments by first designing an extremely efficient floorplan that would create some relieve within the tight budget. This allowed us create an exceptional facade. For the office building we designed a facade of white, stone curtains build from pre-fab elements. The parasite is covered with actual curtains made of darkgrey fabric, that function as sunshades.
