The aim of the project consisted of refurbishing the accesses and premises of the “Mercado Ronda Fleming” market on the Grand Passeig de Ronda near the town of Lleida through the adoption of criteria based on sustainability and energy efficiency which contribute to a clear improvement in the functioning of the current facilities and the comfort of its users. Lleida’s climate forced us to tackle the project addressing bioclimatic architectural criteria, using the weather in our favour rather than allowing it to hinder us. The building’s facades feature large volumes reaching above the roof and facing towards the main streets where the new signage will be placed. The structure thus uses the signage of the market itself to revamp its image, giving it a more modern and representative character. These volumes are also used to generate new technical galleries and to house the new facilities the market requires.
