The hotel building U Zvonu has been developed in two different periods.
In 2006 new modern five-star hotel in the Pilsen city centre was developed. Volume of the building is designed in harmony with the surrounding and closeness of the historic core - a traditional shaped roof with a new modern facade. Roof extension was built in 2015 with reminiscence to "the cloud," with Alucobond cladding, reflecting the sky. The facade is not based on traditional architectural form with a clear and unchanging character, but its character is constantly changing according to the weather and the position of the observer throughout the day and night.
The main element influencing the construction and art solution was the effort not to disturb the compact appearance of the mass of the existing building and at the same time to propose a superstructure that would have a light and unconstrained impression. For this reason, a variant of the "cloud" was designed above the hotel, the facade of the superstructure is solved by an unconventional tiling, so its character changes on the day and night, depending on the weather. It can be said that the facade is always colour and character consistent with colour and character. Thanks to the different triangular rotation, the sky is mirrored, which also changes in relation to the position of the observer.
With this solution, the entire mass of the superstructure relieves and detaches from the hotel and creates a modern concept of the roof superstructure, which is in harmony with the surrounding rocky landscape of the historical conservation area of the city of Pilsen.
Due to the complexity of the object, progressive parametric designing was used during the projection - from the overall shape of the building, through the details of the connections of the individual components, up to the final splice of the mirroring casing.
