A spectacular site anchors this residence. Oriented to maximize thermal gain from the south and deflect cold winter winds from the northwest, the building volumes wrap and fold around a sequence of interior courts. A simple circulation strategy links the southern aspect (including woodshop, greenhouse, and yoga studio) with public rooms arranged around mountain views. Bedrooms are perched higher off the desert floor, affording both privacy and panorama. Our design imagines light being absorbed, reflected, and contained within diaphanous chambers, imparting an essential incandescence within the architecture. The project is currently under construction.
