Belmont Freeman Architects prepared a master plan to identify opportunities for the improvement and expansion of Columbia University’s Business School building. The first phase of work included the renovation of the entrance, elevator lobby and monumental stair hall with a design that integrated the latest communications technology and gave the school a fresh new image. Succeeding renovations, executed over multiple summers, have included classrooms, student lounges, a coffee bar and IT suite. To address evolving needs of business pedagogy, BFA designed and executed a scheme to insert thirty-six group study rooms into the existing library reading room.
