The Yoshiro and Yoshio Taniguchi Museum of Architecture, Kanazawa opened on July 26 with the exhibition The Pursuit of Pure Design: The World of Yoshiro Taniguchi, an Architect Nurtured by Kanazawa.
The two Taniguchis are father and son: Yoshiro (1904-1979) was born in the city of Kanazawa and was both a prolific architect and writer; and Yoshio (1937-) is an equally prolific architect in Japan who is best known outside of the country for his expansion of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
The Yoshiro and Yoshio Taniguchi Museum of Architecture, Kanazawa is Yoshio's latest contribution to his father's home city, where he designed the earlier D.T. Suzuki Museum (2011). Architecture buffs will also know Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, for the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, which was designed by SANAA and opened in 2004.
