On September 23 the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam opened to the public after the renovation of its 1895 building and an expansion designed by local architects Benthem Crouwel. The new white volume with canted walls and dramatically cantilevered roof (engineered by Arup) has locally earned the addition the nickname "the bathtub." Her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix celebrated the reopening in an official ceremony the day before the public was admitted.
