The Center for Eco-efficient Materials and Technologies EcoMaT is located at the Airport-Stadt Bremen, an international transportation hub. The building was designed by Pinearq, Brullet de Luna and Huber Staudt Architects BDA.
The 22,779 sq. mt. of this research and development centre will be occupied by around 500 specialists in science and technology who will investigate light construction. Airbus is the main tenant of this new space with 300 employees who will focus on the future of the aviation industry.
Part of the economic policy of the region is to encourage close cooperation between different disciplines. This is why this cutting-edge nucleus was created, which has also been built with the latest technologies. The centre is strategically located on the site and is structured as an open-linear building, and then fragmented into blocks to adapt to the location’s scale.
The two first floors are designed for laboratories and the next two for offices. Two green patios allow natural air and light to enter the compact base of the labs. The main entrance is a double-height lobby that can be used as an exhibition hall; from this entry, anyone – even for neighbours and pedestrians – has clear access to the cafeteria and the auditorium.
