The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has revealed the six buildings in the running for the 2019 RIBA Stirling Prize, which annually awards the "UK's best new building."
The projects, which were culled from the 54 RIBA National Awards winners revealed last month, range from an experimental house made from cork to a major London transport interchange. The last five Stirling Prize winners have been an office headquarters in London, a recreational pier in East Sussex, an art gallery in London, a girls' school in London, and a theater in Liverpool. If these winning buildings are any indication, it's unlikely this year's Stirling will go to a residential project, even though two of them (a house and a housing development) are shortlisted and are arguably the most interesting buildings in the group. Which project is deemed the UK's best new building will have to wait until October 8, 2019, when it will be crowned at a ceremony in London.

- London Bridge Station (Architect: Grimshaw): "a radical reconfiguration and development of one of London’s busiest stations with a new voluminous, light-filled concourse"
- Nevill Holt Opera, Leicestershire (Architect: Witherford Watson Mann Architects): "a contemporary opera theatre within a 17th-century stable block"
