Architects and the media will be flocking to Paris for the 27 October opening of Frank Gehry's Fondation Louis Vuitton. Yet, in addition to the building, the famous architect has designed a "twisted box" for the French fashion house.
Gehry is one of six "iconoclasts" that Louis Vuitton commissioned to design bags commemorating the label's 160th anniversary; the other five are Christian Louboutin, Cindy Sherman, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson, and Rei Kawakubo. Gehry's contribution to what's called the "Celebrating Monogram" collection is like a miniature of LV's famous trunks, though subtly twisted to give it an appearance that is unmistakably "Gehry." Hardly a steal at £2,490.00, the "Twisted Box" is still a fraction what one would pay for an LV steamer trunk; and it's portable, for taking to the opening of Gehry's latest iconic building.
