Ole Bouman stepped down as director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) after a government-mandated reorganization at the end of last year. About a month after leaving "to pursue independent projects" the Biennal Foundation announced that Bouman will act as creative director of the 5th Urbanism/Architecture Bi-City Biennale in Shenzhen, China; Li Xiangning + Jeffrey Johnson will be the academic directors.

"Urban Border" is the theme of the 5th UABB, which will open in Shekou, Shenzhen at the end of 2013. Bouman is the second non-Chinese curator for the UABB, following Terence Riley's 2011 biennale, "Architecture Creates Cities, Cities Create Architecture."
