Architect John Pedersen Fox designed the IBM tower and selected WAA to collaborate on the design of the building’s plaza and atrium.
Outstanding contemporary design, fine detailing and high quality materials including granite and stainless steel were incorporated into the design in keeping with the prestige of an address on René-Lévesque Boulevard and the image of IBM. Sunlight fills the broad plaza while shade is provided under a grove of trees. Intimate spaces are created with sculpted granite columns under a trellised walkway. The atrium features forty-foot bamboo and a display of tropical plants with seating to accommodate office personnel and visitors alike. Climate, lighting, irrigation and fertilization controls are computerized and carefully concealed in the atrium’s structure. The result is a stunning complement to this world-class building.
