In a dense area of Hong Kong, a rundown 6-story building was renovated and fitted with a new facade of perforated aluminum panels arranged in a free-form way. The building is now a striking visual landmark on this corner location. The new facade panels can also be leased for advertising. The panels are hung 500mm in front of the existing exterior wall, and the perforations allow light and air to penetrate. The ground floor of the building was opened up for a 2-story retail tenant. A new plaza was created at the rear entry, along a busy pedestrian lane. The upper floors, formerly flats, were converted into offices and serviced apartments.
