Historic England has announced that seventeen "bold, playful, brightly coloured Post-Modern buildings of the late 1970s to 1990s" have been listed and are now protected by law.
Although English architecture in those decades was dominated by high-tech buildings by the likes of Norman Foster and Richard Rogers, the country did see its fair share of Postmodern architecture: designs that broke from the dominant Modern style and embraced historical forms. Historic England credits the 2011 Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970 - 1990 exhibition at the V&A as sparking a revival of interest in Postmodernism, though the style has seen a resurgence in recent in nearly every corner of the world.
The list of listed buildings is below, organized by "grade," but visit Historic England for more information on each building and to read their comprehensive list entries.
