As we await the announcement of the finalists for the 2024 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, watch a half-hour video on the selection of the winners of the EUmies Awards 2022.
The 40 works shortlisted for the EUmies Awards 2024 were announced two weeks ago, and the announcement of the finalists — five for the Architecture award, two for the Emerging Architecture award — will come in another two weeks. So now is a good time to take a look at the process behind the selection of the winners of the 2022 awards. The 30-minute film BUILT SKIN. EUmies Awards 2022, recently uploaded to YouTube by the EUmies Awards, does just that: highlighting the finalists through commentary by the architects, clients and users, and the members of the jury. The winners of the previous awards cycle were celebrated at a ceremony in Barclelona in May 2002 and, likewise, the winners of the EUmies Awards 2024 will be announced at a ceremony at the Barcelona Pavilion in May.
As a reminder, the 2022 Architecture Winner was Town House – Kingston University by Grafton Architects, while Lacol's La Borda cooperative housing was the 2022 Emerging Architecture Winner. World-Architects was a Strategic Partner of the 2022 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, and in that role we documented the ceremony and exhibition, visited La Borda, and interviewed Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects.
