The finalists were selected by the jury* from a long list of nominated works that were announced in March. The announcement was made after the jury toured the finalist sites, which included visits with members of the MCHAP Network of architects, academics, and schools. Four of the seven projects are located in Central and South America, with two in the United States and one in Canada.

The finalists, alphabetical by architect:

  • Weekend House by Angelo Bucci, Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • UTEC Campus by Grafton Architects, Lima, Peru
  • Tower 41 by Alberto Kalach, Mexico City, Mexico
  • Pachacamac Museum by Llosa Cortegana, Lima, Peru
  • Star Apartments by Michael Maltzan, Los Angeles, California, USA
  • Fort York National Historic Site Visitor Centre by Patkau Architects / Kearns Mancini Architects, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Grace Farms by SANAA, New Canaan, Connecticut, USA
MCHAP was created by Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture Dean Wiel Arets and launched in 2014. The program also includes MCHAP.emerge, the corresponding biennial prize for the best built work from an emerging architecture practice, and MCHAP.student, which was created this year "to energize the American discourse among young architects." The MCHAP.emerge winner was announced in February, while the MCHAP and MCHAP.student winners will be announced after a day-long symposium at IIT on 19 October 2016.
