Mid Tower Grand is a super-high-rise residential project developed in Tsukishima to retain the old downtown atmosphere only walking distance from Ginza and Nihonbashi. Inspired by the Tsukishima name meaning Island of the Moon, our design strove to achieve building exteriors and communal spaces pursuing an unworldly atmosphere created by moonlight and shadow. Strongly emphasizing the look of the top of the building, the top-floor penthouse design takes advantage of an elegantly beautiful arc which seems to float above as if a moon for an iconic tower with a façade impressive even from a distance. The eaves of the grand entrance silhouette this arching design with lush green to present an elegant appearance throughout the entire premises.
The first-floor entrance lounge has a spacious atmosphere with a two-story vaulted ceiling and glass façade. The design effortlessly alternates between the urban bustle outside and the daily life of residents inside. The arc drawn by the exterior concrete landscaping continues on the interior wall of the entrance to bring the space together in a single arc while white panels with varying angles line the wall. The large arch produced by this design is core to the suggestive moon motif of the entire project. The entrance lounge also acts as a library with rough moon-like stone shelves carving out sections to promote an invitingly open library space.
The rooftop penthouse sits closest to the moon atop the high-rise as a Sky Lounge with an extravagant glass wall six meters high. The design realizes one large integrated interior and exterior surface by complementing the rooftop eaves sparkling in gold outside with the texture of the ceiling panels inside. This gives the impression of a lounge dramatically expanding out into the exterior space. When seen from afar, the illuminated façade which seems to slide into the building appears to float as if a moon in the sky. In addition to the Sky Lounge, the top floor houses a fitness studio and spa. The high-quality materials create a place where people can escape from the daily grind to spend some time surround by beautifully mature aesthetics.
The landscape design adopts the same moon motif used throughout the entire super-high-rise project. A large concrete arc leads visitors from the corner of the property to the entrance. Gardens and waterscapes trace the shape of this arc for an open and relaxing space away from the urban bustle. The water surface of the stepped waterscape visible from the entrance lounge gently reflects light effectively blurring the boundary between the interior and exterior of the building. The selection of weeping cherry and willow trees as well as horsetail and other plants ideal for the landscape achieve an attractive space in harmony with the old downtown feel of Tsukishima.
