Islands in suburbia - new concept

This settlement "Altstattwiese" in Wil showcases another way to deal with diffuse urban space. Five "islands" were positioned on the building plot, encircled by traffic routes. They convey identities to the inhabitants, as it is easy to explain to children where their home is. In turn, the clever interplay of building volumes, open spaces and visual axes visually connects the, otherwise separated, five islands. The design by Baumschlager Eberle Architekten significantly contributes to this: throughout the settlement, elegant, decent colured façades consistently form dividing screens for a harmonious coexistence. Loggias on all corners of the buildings allow the space to flow, the Aeolic design merges with the plasticity of the building.
