Jun Dental Clinic
Gijo-City, Gifu, Japan
Rural area of Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. This was a new construction project to open a new practice on the land in his hometown left to him by his grandfather. The waiting room and all treatment rooms were required to have a view of the mountain ridge line stretching close by. By eliminating the cluttered buildings spreading to the foot of the mountain from view, we thought we could provide patients with an extraordinary landscape. At the same time, it was also necessary to counteract the western sun coming in from the summit of the mountain. As an extension of the interior walls, the exterior walls of the building were extended out into the hollow to create a landscape of rice fields at the bottom and a ridge line at the top, with eaves and cantilevered walls to block the western sun. The floating wall is thinned at the top to reduce the volume, and the dark gray exterior wall material wraps the form, giving it the appearance of floating above the high foundation. The result is an ideal exterior for a doctor's office, providing a low, unobtrusive, and memorable impression in a rural setting.
