'Geometry of Light' in Motion

For people unable to visit the Fundació Mies van der Rohe from February 10 to 17 impressions of Geometry of Light would have been based upon photographs, just like the ones we included in our post on the installation. Such photos present static lines of red light cast upon the walls and other surfaces of Mies's classic pavilion. But the Spirit of Space video reveals that the lights were constantly changing, activating the pavilion's spaces and interacting with the installation's sound component by Oriol Tarragó. Furthermore, the moving images capture some beautiful environmental effects, as in the screenshot above, where the pool and Georg Kolbe's Dawn sculpture are shrouded in a hazy red glow.

Although the short film accentuates the missed opportunity for many people, they can take solace in the fact Geometry of Light will be reinstalled at Mies's Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois, in October, coinciding with the third iteration of the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
