Kieran Long, director of ArkDes and curator of Sigurd Lewerentz: Architect of Death and Life, speaks in a short film about the famous Swedish architect and the much-anticipated exhibition opening at ArkDes on October 1, 2021.
Featuring an exhibition design by Caruso St. John, and accompanied by an impressive monograph of the same name, Sigurd Lewerentz: Architect of Death and Life takes a comprehensive look at the career of an architect known primarily for a few cemeteries and churches built in Sweden in the middle of the last century. The exhibition pulls drawings and other documents from the exhaustive archive of Lewerentz's work at ArkDes, displaying designs for shops, office buildings, recreational pavilions, and other buildings alongside the familiar cemeteries in Malmö and Stockholm, and the St. Peter's and St. Mark's churches. The short film shows Long perusing some of those artifacts and then venturing out to the Woodland Cemetery to look at some of Lewerentz's buildings and landscapes in person.
Sigurd Lewerentz: Architect of Death and Life is on display at ArkDes in Stockholm from October 1, 2021 – August 28, 2022. World-Architects will have a review of the exhibition following its opening.
