In a talk given at the TED Conference in Vancouver in April of this year, British designer Thomas Heatherwick argues against boring architecture and in favor of architectural diversity and a "global humanizing movement."
Heatherwick begins his 15-minute talk by pointing out the social and environmental dangers in "boring" buildings, following them with commendable examples by other architects. His studio's own buildings — in South Africa, England, Singapore, and Shanghai — take up most of the film, serving as arguments for the humanist approach he would love the rest of the world to take up.
