The six projects in the running for the 2024 RIBA Stirling Prize

The shortlist was announced at the end of July, a few months ahead of next week's awards ceremony. With a variety of project types spread across London and other parts of England, RIBA President Muyiwa Oki said the unifier was found in how “each scheme thoughtfully adapts elements of our existing built environment.” Put another way, the jury will have a hard time determining what makes one project stand out above the rest. The list:

  1. Chowdhury Walk, London by Al-Jawad Pike
  2. The Elizabeth Line, London Underground by Grimshaw, Maynard, Equation and Atkins
  3. King’s Cross Masterplan, London by Allies and Morrison and Porphyrios Associates
  4. National Portrait Gallery, London by Jamie Fobert Architects and Purcell
  5. Park Hill Phase 2, Sheffield by Mikhail Riches
  6. Wraxall Yard, Dorset by Clementine Blakemore Architects

The results will be announced during the Stirling Prize ceremony taking place at the Roundhouse in London on October 16, 2024. Additionally, RIBA is holding a “people's poll” that anyone can participate in, with the results of that vote announced on October 15. In the meantime, watch the 5-minute films to learn more about each project, hearing from the architects but also their clients and occasionally the inhabitants.
